Now, onto the Rundown. The holiday week is a tough time to score a deal, and many resorts are crowded and expensive. Although we’re showcasing a handful of ticket specials in this issue, the theme for this week is hidden gems. We’re highlighting some lesser known ski areas that have great terrain, uncrowded slopes, and always affordable tickets. Even during the holidays.

  • Is your season pass blacked out for the holiday week? Black Mountain of Maine let's you ski for $45 if you have a season pass to another mountain that's blacked out.

  • Dartmouth Skiway has 2 peaks and nearly 1,000 feet of vertical terrain. Tickets on holidays are just $60 when you purchase online.

  • A similar hidden gem over in Vermont is Middlebury Snowbowl. Tickets are only $68 on holidays when purchased online.

  • Another little known mountain in Vermont is Ski Quechee. You won't find any crowds there, but you will find $62 lift tickets on weekends and holidays.

  • Over in Maine, thousand plus footer Mt. Abram has one of the best deals going with $42 tickets on weekends.

  • On the other side of the state is lesser known Camden Snowbowl, the only place in New England where you can ski with an ocean view. Grab a weekend/holiday ticket for just $45 online

  • Holding down the fort in New Hampshire is Tenney Mountain, where you can get a ticket for any specific day online for only $69

  • Also in New Hampshire is the newly revived Granite Gorge. The lower mountain is currently open so tickets are just $20, and when the summit opens (soon!) you can ski for $45

The bigger resorts are crowded and expensive over the holidays for a reason: they’re pretty awesome. But to get some quality turns, you should know that you have many other affordable (and equally awesome) options.
